Tiers and rewards

A tier is a threshold plus a reward. Build a single tier or a ladder, understand each reward type, and know how amounts and fixed prices behave at checkout.

Every campaign is built from tiers. A tier is a threshold (a minimum quantity or a minimum spend) plus a reward. You can have one tier or a ladder of several. All tiers in one campaign use the same kind of threshold, and the highest threshold the shopper reaches is the one that applies.

Thresholds must be distinct

Two tiers cannot share the same threshold. If you type a duplicate, you see the error the moment you type it, both inline on the tier and in the review summary, not only at publish time.

Reward types by campaign

Campaign typeReward types
VolumePercentage off, Amount off each, Fixed price each
Buy X Get YFree or a percentage off the get items
Spend goalPercentage off or Amount off the order
Free ShippingPercentage off shipping (100 = fully free)
Free GiftThe gift product, 100 percent off
Which rewards each type allows
Note

A reward that pays in product needs its own campaign type

Every reward in the table above pays in money, except the two that hand over an item: Buy X Get Y and Free Gift. So a Spend goal ladder cannot end in a free product. If you want "spend $75 get $10 off, spend $150 get 15% off, spend $250 get a free gift", build the two money rungs as one Spend goal and add a Free Gift campaign for the $250 rung. Both can live in the same campaign, sharing one schedule.

Tiers replace each other, campaigns add up

This is the difference worth understanding before you build a ladder. Inside one campaign, only the highest tier the cart reaches pays out, and the lower ones are replaced. Across two campaigns, each is worked out on its own, so both can pay out on the same cart when the "Combines with" switches allow it.

$282not buildable this way15% off and the gift, together
A $10-off rung at $75, a 15% rung at $150, and a free gift at $250
Tip

This is usually what you want. A shopper who spends $282 keeps their percentage and gets the gift on top, rather than trading one for the other. Splitting the product rung into its own campaign is what makes that happen.

Note

A reward that pays in product needs its own campaign type

Every reward in the table above pays in money, except the two that hand over an item: Buy X Get Y and Free Gift. So a Spend goal ladder cannot end in a free product. If you want "spend $75 get $10 off, spend $150 get 15% off, spend $250 get a free gift", build the two money rungs as one Spend goal and add a Free Gift for the $250 rung. Both can sit in the same campaign, sharing one schedule.

Tiers replace each other, offers add up

This is the difference worth understanding before you build a ladder. Inside one offer, only the highest tier the cart reaches pays out and the lower ones are replaced. Across two offers, each is worked out on its own, so both can pay out on the same cart when the "Combines with" switches allow it.

Amount off never goes below free

An amount-off reward can never make an item cost less than free. If your "$30 off" is larger than the item’s price, the item simply becomes free. Values cannot be negative, and Buy X Get Y percentages are capped at 100.

How fixed price behaves

A fixed price sets what the tier’s minimum quantity of units costs together: "minimum 3, set price $10" is three for $10, and you get a per-unit price by setting the minimum quantity to 1. It is worked out at checkout from the item’s live price, so if you change a product’s price after publishing, the discount recalculates automatically. A fixed price above what those units currently cost applies no discount until their price rises above it. It is a price for a set, never a cap on the whole cart.

Note

The app detects stacking conflicts between campaigns, but it does not yet warn when a reward amount or fixed price has drifted out of line with a product’s current price. Review your rewards after big price changes.

The three reward types on one cart

The same cart, 3 units of a $10.00 item, run through each reward type on a tier with a minimum quantity of 3.

RewardSet toWhat comes offThey pay
Percent off10%$1.00 off each unit, $3.00 total$27.00
Amount off each$2.00$2.00 off each unit, $6.00 total$24.00
Set price$10.00The 3 units cost $10.00 together, $20.00 off$10.00
3 units at $10.00, tier minimum quantity 3
Watch out

Set price is a price for the set, not per unit

That third row is the one to read twice. A set price of $10.00 on a "minimum quantity 3" tier means three units for $10.00 in total, not $10.00 each. If you want a per-unit price, put the set price on a tier with a minimum quantity of 1.

Set price also needs a complete set. On that same "3 for $10.00" tier, a cart with 2 units gets nothing, 3 units get the set price, and 7 units get two complete sets discounted with the odd unit at full price when Repeat is on, or one set when it is off.

10The top rung, the lower two are replaced$20.00

The highest tier reached wins

When a shopper qualifies for more than one tier, only the highest one they reach applies, not all of them added together. A three-tier "spend $100 / $200 / $300" ladder gives a shopper at $250 the $200 reward.
