Spend goal: spend more, save more

Reward the whole order once spending crosses a goal, for example "$15 off orders over $100". A Spend goal is an order-level discount measured on the whole cart subtotal.

A Spend goal rewards the order once the shopper’s spend reaches a threshold. It is an order-level discount, so it takes a percentage or an amount off the order rather than changing individual item prices. There is no counting mode, because it is measured by spend, not quantity.

You can add multiple spend tiers to build a ladder (spend $100 for 10 percent, spend $200 for 15 percent). Thresholds must be distinct, and the highest one the shopper reaches wins.

A Spend goal measures the whole cart

A Spend goal is an order-level discount, so its threshold and its reward both work off the whole cart subtotal. Targeting does not change that today: every item in the cart counts toward the goal, and the discount applies to the order, not to a filtered subset. If you need a spend threshold limited to a specific set of products, a Spend goal is not the tool for that.

Note

A Spend goal cannot give away a product

The Reward dropdown on a Spend goal tier offers Percentage off and Amount off, and nothing else. A Spend goal is an order-level discount and a free product is an item-level reward, so the product belongs to a Free Gift or Buy X Get Y offer. To run a spend ladder that ends in a gift, keep the money rungs on the Spend goal and add a Free Gift offer at the top threshold. Put both in the same campaign so they share a schedule, and turn on the matching "Combines with" switches so a qualifying cart receives both rather than only one.

Where it sits in the math

Because a Spend goal is an order-level discount, it is calculated on your subtotal after any product discounts have already reduced item prices. It stacks with a product discount only when both campaigns allow the pairing (the "Product discounts" switch in each campaign’s "Combines with" section, on for both). Reward allocation has no effect on a Spend goal.

A worked example

A three-rung ladder in one Spend goal campaign: spend $75 for $10 off, spend $150 for $25 off, spend $200 for 15 percent off. The highest rung the cart reaches is the one that pays, and it is worked out on the whole subtotal.

Cart subtotalRung that appliesOrder discountThey pay
$86.00$75 rung$10.00$76.00
$165.00$150 rung, the $10 rung is replaced$25.00$140.00
$234.00$200 rung, 15% of the subtotal$35.10$198.90
Rungs at $75 ($10 off), $150 ($25 off), and $200 (15% off)
Note

The rungs never add up. A $234.00 cart clears all three thresholds but receives only the $200 reward, not $10 plus $25 plus 15 percent. If you want a shopper to keep a percentage and also receive something else, put the second reward in its own offer; see Tiers and rewards.

A note on multiple currencies

Watch out

Spend thresholds are in your store currency

A spend threshold is set in your store’s currency and, at checkout, is compared against the shopper’s amount without converting between currencies. A percentage reward is always correct in any currency, so if you sell in several currencies, prefer percentage-based goals. See "What the builder checks" for the full detail.
